FREE Websites for Everyone
Well this will be quick. It must be true. FREE websites for everyone. I see the commercials every day and night on TV. All channels from well know companies everywhere It Must Be True. The ads could not be wrong, could they? That would be false advertising. So it must be true.
Not so fast. Lets take a closer look at all these free websites. A few months back a really good long time friend and business associate of mine called about a new business venture hes stating that needed a website. As we have done business with each other many times ( not involving websites ) I told him great here is what we need to do to get started. He thanked me Deal Done and life goes on until…… A few days later the phone call came in. Sorry CR, I have been offered a deal from my phone company I can not refuse. Now I wont mention any names but this company is pretty big and well known. So it must be true. I congratulated him on his good luck, hung up and waited on the next phone call. Sure enough the phone rang about 2 weeks later and their was my friend with a question. Could I come by the new office and check out something for him? Sure no problem as I was curious to see this new FREE website. Market research you understand. Next day first thing ( unusual for me as I am a typical coder work late sleep late ) I headed over to do my market research. When I got to office after a quick tour of the new facility’s and some small talk we got to the meat of the meeting, The part I was waiting for. His first question to me Could you maybe help me a little with my new website? O My am I surprised, Did not see that one coming. Right ….. No problem lets see what ya got here. OK he says I want a picture of the car I drive that everyone knows me for right up in that top corner. OK I say should not be a problem lets take a look. Well ten minutes later I give him the good news, picture installed. Great he says, now if you will just show me which buttons to use to change the picture later if I want to I’ll be eternally grateful. Here it is the bad news, Sorry no buttons. I hacked it to change picture probably will not last, only till they update or catch what I did, then back to stock picture for you.
Umm from hero to zero in less than a minute. Might be a new record for me.
Seriously the bottom line to this story is yes there are free websites out there as long as you want the website they give you and you only want it for 30 or less days. My friend as many before him learned that his new shiny website was not only not free but it would not do what he wanted or needed for the price of FREE. When the company rep returned and as Paul Harvey said: ” And now For The Rest Of The Story ” his FREE website quickly turned into a $55.00 dollar a month till the end of time website to get the features he wanted and needed. Also to add insult to injury he was tied into a minimum 24 month contract due in full if cancelled. He has to pay extra for any changes he wants ( like getting the website to look the way he wants it ) and even for support questions. WOW the true cost of FREE

GOOGLE MOBILE FRIENDLY TEST
In a recent announcement, Google has confirmed that beginning in May 2016 they will increase the effect of the mobile-friendliness ranking signal to help their users find more pages Google Mobile Friendly Test that are relevant and mobile-friendly on mobile devices.
Remember this algorithm is only one part of the many factors that affect rankings.
In the announcement Klemen Kloboves, Software Engineer at Google, made the following points:
- If you have already made your website mobile-friendly, this update will not affect you.
- The intent of the search is still a strong signal, so even if your website is not mobile-friendly, you may still rank well if your content is high quality and relevant.
- You can use the Mobile-Friendly Test and the Webmaster Mobile Guide to help diagnose and improve your mobile website.
The new update is scheduled to start rolling out in May 2016, but may take some time to be fully implemented. The mobile-friendliness test is absolute, so your website either qualifies as mobile-friendly or it doesn’t. There are no gray areas or sliding scale to the ranking signal. This makes it very easy to implement, as you will have a clear confirmation from Google that your website qualifies for the ranking boost.
To test whether your website is mobile-friendly, you can use Google’s mobile testing tool. You can enter your website URL, and it will report back whether it passes, or indicate any failures.
So … WordPress.com or WordPress.org?
Both are great options and the best one for you depends on the plans you have for your site, your skill level and how much time you can spend on maintaining and designing your site.
If you’re on the opposite side of the scale and need full control over your site design, plugins, files and database with total freedom to change and tweak to your heart’s content and don’t mind maintaining and securing your site, then WordPress.org can provide the software you need.
This is also the case if you’re also planning on developing an eCommerce, membership, social media or large business site since a self-hosted WordPress site may be cheaper and offers more flexibility.
If you’re still not sure, check out this handy video we created comparing WordPress.org and WordPress.com
This video offers a quick overview of everything you will want to consider when deciding between the two options:
Our Recommendation: WordPress.org
When it comes down to cost, freedoms and limitations, and maintenance and development considerations, WordPress.org wins hands down.
It may take more time and effort to set up a WordPress site, but you will have full control over the look and feel of your site. You will be able to use custom themes and customize their look, and also upload custom plugins to add more functionality to your site.
If you plan to grow your site and increase traffic, then downloading WordPress from WordPress.org is our recommendation.

Affiliate’s Ruined Reviews
Affiliate’s Ruined Reviews…. Boy this ones going to catch me some grief. I bet I,v written this article 100 times in my head. I just never really felt the need to share it until last night. I finally got the final straw phone call. ” Hey CR, I got a quick question for you. OK, go ahead. Well I’ve been doing like you told me to, you no do my research about plugins, themes and such and now I,m confused. All these reviews I Google seem to say the same things.
I then went on to explain to him that the reviews all seem to be written by the same people because the majority of the Googled articles were. You see ” its the
dirty little secrete called Affiliate Links.” Now affiliate by itself is wonderful ie: ” to closely connect (something or yourself) with or to something (such as a program or organization) as a member or partner ” but affiliate plus marketing has become a glorious mess when combined with Google Search.
Before I,m throw off the internet and banned forever from Google let me explain my humble opinion. Lets start with Affiliate Links or Affiliate Marketing as per Wikipedia ” Affiliate marketing overlaps with other Internet marketing methods to some degree, because affiliates often use regular advertising methods. Those methods include organic search engine optimization (SEO), paid search engine marketing (PPC – Pay Per Click), e-mail marketing, content marketing and in some sense display advertising. On the other hand, affiliates sometimes use less orthodox techniques, such as publishing reviews of products or services offered by a partner. ” Now all that’s good right up until the last sentence ” On the other hand, affiliates sometimes use less orthodox techniques, such as publishing reviews of products or services offered by a partner. ” Here’s were we get to the written by the same people question, the answer is, they do sound alike because they are written by the same people. The people or company that wants you to try or buy their service or product. Now that I,v totally confused ya, let me explain. The words you read on the review article are written by the service or product company and then posted along with their service product on said companies website. The problems comes about by the hundreds of “a hum” entrepreneurs that have figured out how to get rich on the internet ( in 30 days or less please ). They get themselves a domain name, throw together an expert website Yeah Right, add some so called reviews ( now listen closely ) with copy and pasted glowing paragraphs of text about said reviewed service or product and then sit back and wait for the money to roll in. But wait you say, the reviewers are not selling anything, were does the money come from. Aaa Haa AFFILIATE LINKS.
Briefly affiliate links are links inserted into a
article er pretend review of the service or product that when clicked on take you to the companies website, were the hope is you will purchase said service or product. When the transaction is completed and the company is paid a waiting period is passed the affiliate is payed a commission for leading you to the sale. To be fair affiliate marketing is a current day version of what us old guys used to use word of mouth or referral marketing. OK I no you kids are saying here we go back in the day ( wow I got old guys back in the day and you kids in two sentences ) in some universe I’d get points for that, unfortunately not in this one. But really some how referral and affiliate have become meshed melded or tied up together into some perverted mess.
Bottom line learn a little bit about buying ranking on Google search with ad words, look a little further than the first 2 pages of your google search findings, check out the companies website, if the so called review sounds a lot like a companies ad for there service product it probably is. Its a shame these er entrepreneurs do not own or use the service product and most don,t even take the time to try and write an honest review. Take the time, there are honest reviewers out there although they are harder to find thanks to the unethical use of affiliate links.
Thanks for Listening
Are Pre Built Themes Bad?
Pre built themes. Are Pre Built Themes Bad? Were to start? My dealings with Pre built themes has proved one thing, above all else – People either love or hate pre built themes. Themes are to WordPress what walls, paint, flooring, interior, exterior decorating and Landscaping is to your home. Now way back in the day, we hand wrote every new website from scratch. Very time consuming and expensive for everyone involved. At some point we all realized that a large group of our customers did not need a new built from scratch website. Just like with your home, you can use plans that an architect drew up and are used by many builders or you can commission an architect to draw up one off plans just for you. By using Pre Built themes and making adjustments to suite your needs, you will save two thirds to half of what it used to cost the client. What you end up with is a proven website that fits your needs at at a fraction of the original clients cost. After your Colors, Content and Design Changes are applied to the Pre Built theme, it becomes all about you.
